MATERIALS & PRODUCTION

Uurna is made of solid wood, with every part—down to the locking mechanism and cotton cord—fully biodegradable. The components are sourced from Finnish woodworking companies, and final assembly takes place at our workshop in Eastern Uusimaa.

Each Uurna is unique in its appearance and surface. Wood is a living material, so humidity and sunlight affect its properties. In damp seasons, the wood swells, making the locking mechanism tighter. In dry seasons, small surface cracks may appear, though they do not affect usability. If Uurna is exposed to sunlight, the tone of the untreated wood will gradually deepen over time.

Every Uurna is carefully inspected before shipping. Finished pieces are packed in corrugated cardboard product boxes and, for shipping, placed in an additional mailing package. Each product package includes product information, user instructions, and an identification tag.

Dimensions: height 320 mm, width 170 mm, pin length 260 mm, volume 4.7 liters, weight 1.5 kg.

Pine

The main material of Uurna is Finnish pine. We value pine both as a living tree and as a material. Often criticized as knotty, uneven, or prone to yellowing, we believe it deserves proper appreciation.

In Uurna, we have intentionally highlighted the qualities of pine: its strong grain tells of the time embedded in the material, while visible knots bring character to the surface.

Colors

In addition to untreated smooth wood, our standard collection includes three sandblasted color options: vivid yellow, deep brown, and dark blue.

Each colored urn is individually processed—sandblasted, brushed, and dyed by hand. We use only ecological, water-based wood pigments that allow the natural grain to remain beautifully visible. We mix the color shades ourselves and apply them by hand.

In addition to our standard colors, we also produce custom-colored Uurnas upon request. Please contact us by email if you wish to inquire about availability and pricing for a specific shade.
